I looked for a long time for the right spark plugs for my 1997 Chevrolet Pickup 5.7L V8, and these were the best ones I could find. Essentially, the OE spark plugs that GM initially used in the engine, but with an iridium update. 

I could tell straight away that I had made the right choice after starting the truck and letting the engine idle. It’s never been more efficient. I recommend these for a GM 5.7L “Vortec” engine, which I believe was manufactured between 1994 and 1998. 

I replaced these plugs because I read that Vortec engines run better with these plugs, and despite the bigger spacing, my van runs so much smoother and seems to have more power. 

Please don’t leave any gaps between these plugs. They are pre-programmed from the factory and are not intended to be tampered with. The extremely small Iridium electrode is delicate and should be left alone. Send the boxes back for an exchange if they are damaged and the gaps appear to be closed.

It arrived in perfect condition. As a long-time gearhead, my advice is to stay with recognized brand plugs. There are various unusual plugs on the market, but in a tiny engine, unique plugs are usually ineffective. 

This is also true for many automobiles, however, the results vary greatly in larger engines. Keep it simple- the good old Champion 12YC plug has been around for a long time and is the plug that many engines come with out of the box.

Excellent value and a great fit for my vehicle. This is the same plug indicated in the original handbook; easy off, easy on; just make sure to put a touch of clean oil or anti-seize to the threads to avoid future concerns and establish the gap according to the mower’s manual.

These are used in my 300C with a 5.7 Hemi and two plugs per cylinder. I follow Chrysler’s recommendation of changing the plugs every 30k miles, so I don’t spend the extra money on the Platinum or any other sort of long-life plug. 

In addition, I’ve read about folks with the identical engine having problems with anything other than the standard copper plug. I only drive this car in the summer, therefore it will take me 2-3 years to reach 30k miles.

My Hemi had been running rough and needed new spark plugs, so I decided to go for the upgrade and try iridium plugs. The previous plugs had roughly 50k miles on them and were far past their expiration date. 

The OEM plugs were platinum, and I’d heard that platinum plugs can last for up to 100k miles. That was not the case here, as they were all fouled after 50k. When I put on the new iridium plugs, my engine was like new again. 

The idle was smooth and quiet, just as it should be. I’ve also observed a minor improvement in fuel economy, which comes as no surprise after replacing fouled-out plugs.

I can’t say whether the BKR5EIX-11 Iridium IX Spark Plugs are any better than the OEM platinum plugs because I’ve only put about 1k miles on them, but they’re about the same price. 

Because iridium is a considerably harder metal than platinum and has a much higher melting point, these plugs are more durable and should last longer, at least in theory. They don’t run any hotter than OEM plugs. 

However, because they have a finer electrodes, they take less power to generate a spark, making them more efficient. I anticipated these to be pre-gapped, but because they weren’t the OEM plugs for my 5.7 Hemi, they were not pre-gapped.

Copper, platinum, and iridium all have their uses in technology, but the propensity to cause fowling, burn holes in cylinder heads, hesitancy, hot plugs, or bad performance seems a bit far-fetched to me. 

Unless you have a high-performance vehicle or strong hauling requirements, I don’t see these plugs failing you. If you have a high-performance vehicle, I’d expect you’d search elsewhere for information rather than my two cents and someone’s anecdotal proof.

I installed these in a ’07 Chrysler 300C, removed the original champion copper plugs with 45k on them, and everything seemed to work well except for the electrode being scorched down to.50 gaps. 

They were replaced solely on the basis of age and mileage. These new Bosch platinum plugs are pre-gapped at.44, but I remapped them to.42 on a blog tip, and they look to work great in the vehicle. 

Others who believe anything other than OEM is causing harm to their vehicle are mistaken, and they may have more problems with their vehicle than just a spark plug.

These are the original Mopar spark plugs. They were a perfect match for my 2012 Ram 1500 5.7 EZH engine. You must check the gap. The plugs arrived gapped at 0.044, although my specifications call for 0.043. 

One of them was gapped at 0.050. If you’re putting in a Hemi, you’ll need the GearWrench 80546 5/8-Inch x 6-Inch Swivel tool. To get to the plugs directly beneath the brake booster and the two plugs behind it and up against the firewall. 

You’ll also need a separate 5/8 socket, a pair of short swivel extensions, and possibly a magnet. These can be difficult. You’ll have to insert each socket and extension one at a time because there won’t be enough room to do it all at once.

You’ll have to remove it in the same manner, and you may need to use the magnet to take out the socket and plug. The plugs arrived safely wrapped and cushioned. Permatex 81343 Anti-Seize Lubricant and Permatex 22058 Dielectric Tune-Up Grease were also utilized to complete the installation.
