8 Best Cold Air Intake For 5.7 Hemi Charger

To boost your car’s performance you may find a plethora of accessories and high-quality components that can be combined with your engine’s roar to make your car a true beast.

Some installations might be complex while some easy and less costly. Among the easy ones, the cold-air intake has proved to be one of the best and most effective additions for your 5.7 Hemi that can boost the power of your engine.

Companies like K&N and JLT are renowned brands known for manufacturing high-quality cold-air intakes. However, there are many other less known brands as well whose products might catch your attention.

Among these lesser-known brands, some are authentic while some provide products that are not so “authentic”. Experienced mechanics might be able to differentiate between a low and high-quality product but it won’t be possible for everyone.

So, we have chosen the most effective cold intakes specially designed for a 5.7 Hemi and brought to you the best one from the store. We have personally tested each product on our rides and also on additional cars if anyone feels like having these in their other car.

We have analyzed over thirty excellent cold intakes and according to our analysis, the K&N Cold Air Intake Kit (Challenger, Charger, 300) 5.7L V8,63-1114 is truly an amazing product. We also talked about how to clean the cold air intake filters. So make sure to check it out.

8 best cold air intake for 5.7 Hemi charger- Reviewed

All the products mentioned here are available online on amazon.com.

1. K&N Cold Air Intake Kit 5.7L V8

Pros
  • The throttle response is excellent
  • Extra horsepower is quite evident
Cons
  • The instructions are a little vague

Product details:

  1. Fit Type: Vehicle Specific Fit
  2. Material: Alloy Steel
  3. Item Dimensions LxWxH: 18 x 18 x 12 inches

I purchased this for my 2014 Dodge Charger RT, and installation took approximately an hour and 45 minutes because we had no idea what to expect. After the installation, the check engine light came on, so I unplugged the battery, which reset the system and cured the problem.

The throttle response is excellent, and I enjoy hearing it suck up air when I start the car and hit the gas pedal. I can feel the extra horsepower, but I don’t have the numbers to tell you how much it boosted.

I used to get 16-17 mpg in traffic, but now I got 19-20 mpg. I’m guessing I’ll get approximately 27-29 mpg on the highway instead of the factory 25mpg. When accelerating, there is a noticeable difference in throttle response and a more forceful engine roar.

According to the k&n website and the instructions included with the intake, this does suit the 2015 charger rt. At idling, I expected the engine to sound a little more forceful, but not by much. I believe that the engine in idle should be changed as little as possible.

The instructions are a little vague because the graphics printed on the papers make it difficult to notice the information you need to make sure you’re doing it correctly. I followed the installation video that I found online. It was much easier to follow along, and I could slow down/stop the video as I went through each stage.

2. Mopar 77070044AC Cold Air Intake

Pros
  • Easy and swift installation process
  • Fantastic intake sound
Cons
  • The temperature can get extremely high

Product details:

  1. Fit Type: Vehicle Specific Fit
  2. Shape: Conical
  3. Item Dimensions LxWxH: 15 x 15 x 13 inches

Mopar factory fit on my 2019 Chrysler 300s 5.7 Hemi. There are no adjustments required, but I would recommend releasing all of the screw clamps to allow you to simply slip on all of the parts.

The rubber grommet that comes with the car will easily loosen off the metal spacer that comes with the kit, so I recommend just keeping it in place in the engine bay, or else it will fall into the intake hole coming from the fender and be a nightmare to cleanout.

Worked as planned and looks fantastic with the massive Mopar blue air filter; certainly recommend for the aesthetics alone. As you reverse it, you can also hear the fantastic intake sound.

It took around 10-15 minutes to put together, and the whole installation time couldn’t have been longer than 30 minutes. Not only was the ease of installation a significant benefit, but the difference in my exhaust sound made me happy. Without a doubt, one of the greatest mods for your 5.7.

When driving, intake temperatures are still around 10 degrees over ambient, but when stopped at a signal, they skyrocket.

3. Airaid Cold Air Intake System

Pros
  • Boost to the horsepower
  • Affordable price
Cons
  • The filter is really flimsy

Product details:

  1. Product Grade: Performance Part
  2. Brand: Airaid
  3. Material; Polyethene

This is a drop-in CAI that takes around an hour to set up. Although it is not a true CAI because it does not draw cold air from the bottom, I hear that these old-school air intake devices are banned.

Nowadays, all CAIs, including Mopars, look like this. I installed this on my Dodge Challenger 2015 and the difference in horsepower is palpable. I’m confident this resulted in a 15-20 rise in hp.

I haven’t used a dyno, but I can feel it. Prior to installation, when I walked on it, the car choked. I can hear a rumble where I heard a choking sound after this drop in CAI.

This is preferable to purchasing a $400 CAI with extra tubing. This is simply a drop-in, so you can reuse your existing tubing. On the other side, this filter is really flimsy.

4. S&B Filters 75-5106 Cold Air Intake Classic Body Style 5.7L Hemi

Pros
  • Functionality of the system are excellent
  • Instructions are extremely straight and simple to understand
Cons
  • The tube seal did not sit properly

Product details:

  1. Fit Type: Vehicle Specific Fit
  2. Material: Silicone
  3. Item Dimensions LxWxH: 20 x 16 x 14 inches

This kit was purchased for my 2017 RAM 1500. It took about an hour and a half to complete the installation. The directions were among the best I’d seen in a long time. Throughout my investigation on intakes in general, everyone praised the S&B product.

I can now say that I completely agree. The overall quality and functionality of the system are excellent. It looks great beneath the hood in terms of fit and quality. The only difficulty

I had with the installation was that the tube seal did not sit properly. This is the seal that holds the intake tube in place inside the intake box. It had a horrible propensity of falling off and hanging on the intake tube.

After a few tries of turning it each time, it finally appears to stay put. When I started studying this input, one thing I couldn’t find was a lot of sound evaluations. Every time I step on my vehicle, the sound that this intake produces makes me smile from ear to ear.

I should also mention that it sounds stock in regular driving conditions, which is fantastic in my opinion. You can only hear it when you want to. It produces the greatest sound between 2,000 and 4500 RPM. It adds a good deep tone to the truck that it lacked in factory form.

5. K&N Cold Air Intake Kit 5.7L V8, 69-2526TP

Pros
  • The stock intake was fairly easy to remove and the overall installation was quite simple.
  • The overall look of the product is awesome
Cons
  • The fitting can be a bit tricky and might need some push and adjustments

Product details:

  1. Product Grade: Performance Part
  2. Fit Type: Vehicle Specific Fit
  3. Item Dimensions LxWxH: 24 x 12 x 10 inches

I have a 2007 Chrysler 300C 5.7L HEMI, and after installing a K&N CAI on my previous 5.7L HEMI RAM 1500, I knew this would be my first modification to the car.

These may only provide a minor gain in horsepower, but they do help gas mileage and throttle response, plus you can’t beat that great intake sound when you put your foot in it! The stock intake was fairly straightforward to remove from my car, as was the K&N filter.

When I pre-fitted this, it seemed a little too close to the top of the serpentine belt, even if secured with the zip tie, so I ran it over the top of the throttle body making sure that the connector was to the passenger side and below the top of the throttle body so that it didn’t obstruct the engine cover when installed.

I also use two smaller black zip ties to fasten it because the one provided by K&N is fairly large, and everything is fine. It fits perfectly and is all quite secure, so there is no rattling or extra noise that you don’t want.

6. K&N Cold Air Intake Kit V8

Pros
  • Definitely a great investment in HP
  • Quite simple to install
Cons
  • The heat shield isn’t a great fit

Product details:

  1. Fit Type: Vehicle Specific Fit
  2. Material: Alloy Steel
  3. Item Dimensions LxWxH: 18.25 x 18.25 x 12.5 inches

This device was installed on a friend’s 2009 Hemi Challenger. I’ve done a lot of these installations before, but because this device fits many models/years, there were some minor variances from what was described in the directions.

But nothing too difficult. I thought the box that surrounded the actual filter cone looked a little silly. The automobile I worked on has a unique tune for the cold air. The car started immediately up and runs perfectly.

There is no doubt about K&N and their goods. This intake was fairly simple to install, with basic instructions that took around 30 minutes to complete. There is a noticeable improvement in throttle responsiveness, as well as a much nicer sound when you tromp on the gas.

I generally buy K&N items for my autos since they never let me down. Definitely a good investment in HP; it’s simple to install and well worth the money. One of the best and simplest performance mods for your Hemi.

The heat shield didn’t go down far enough, so the cone filter at the end didn’t quite fit right, so we had to do some shifting and shoving to get it in. But it worked, and I’d guess I gained at least one mile per gallon.

7. Airaid Cold Air Intake System AIR-350-210

Pros
  • The fitting is perfect for a Challenger
  • Improves the breathability of the car
Cons
  • Although the installation itself is simple, some parts are missing from the package.

Product details:

  1. Aerodynamically-engineered intake tub
  2. Item Weight: 10 pounds
  3. Country of Origin: ‎USA

I’ve installed Airaid cold air intake systems on three different automobiles and think the device to be extremely good, albeit a little pricey given its simplicity. I’ll say that Airad is the least expensive of the options available while maintaining comparable quality, fit, and ease of installation.

This one, which came with adapters to fit numerous engines and was aligned to every contour of the 392, Challenger Skat-Pack it was installed on, appears to be “standard equipment” and performs flawlessly.

I’ve always questioned the assertion that any cool air kit can boost horsepower, but I do believe that improved “breathing” improves fuel/air delivery efficiency and may even increase gas mileage to some extent.

Except for having to run to Walmart to pick up the missing screws, nuts, and washers used to complete the intake box, this was a simple installation. Aside from that, the installation is rather simple.

8. aFe Power Momentum GT 54-72102 Dodge RAM HEMI Performance Intake System

Pros
  • The intake filter is perfectly sized
  • The engine breathes much more efficiently
Cons
  • The air connection tube is too long

Product details:

  1. Fit Type: Universal Fit
  2. Shape: Hexagonal
  3. Material: Cotton

I’ve had several K&N air intakes on previous vehicles, but this one is simply wonderful. This intake fits flawlessly in my Ram 1500 (2018 model) and appears to be something that would be fitted as a factory standard on an R/T.

The intake filter is substantial in size, but I can’t confirm whether mileage improves with this intake, and I didn’t buy this to improve mileage.

I can’t say if the vehicle’s horsepower has improved, but you’ll notice that the engine breathes much more efficiently, especially with the front lid of the intake removed, and the engine seems more responsive.

Beneath firm acceleration, there is a lovely grumble from under the hood that is distinct and throaty, rather than frustratingly drone-ish, as a K&N intake may be. This throaty growl is not present at all during normal driving or highway speeds; it only appears during hard acceleration, as it should.

The only problem I had was that the bottom 5/8″ air connection tube is too long and will need to be trimmed because Ram has a ‘Zero’ tolerance for setting the intake high and this will need to be placed ‘hard’ down on the throttle body to guarantee the unit fits under the hood.

What to consider while buying a cold air intake for 5.7 Hemi?- Buying Guide

The importance of a cold air intake is immense for sustaining the condition of your car. But to get a suitable CAI for your car it is important to understand its specifications and identify which specifications will be suitable for you as well as your car.

Here is the important stuff that you must consider and analyze before going for the CAI unit.

Air Intake Filter

Air Intake filters serve the purpose of purifying the intake air and providing cleaner air. Having a high-quality a=filter will give you a better service. The only thing that is recommended is to select a filter that is washable.

Using a washable and reusable filter is far more cost-effective than the ones that need to be replaced frequently.

According to our review, the K&N Cold Air Intake Kit 5.7L V8,63-1114 includes an excellent unit of an air filter.

Air Intake housing

The purpose of an intake housing is to hold air and channel it to the engine. The size and shape of the housing are what determine whether it will fit the system or not.

The volume of the housing also influences the amount of air it can deliver so having bigger housing can be beneficial but might not always fit perfectly in your engine space.

According to our analysis, the K&N Cold Air Intake Kit 5.7L V8, 69-2526TP has a sufficient size of intake housing that can fit the 5.7 Hemi as well as hold a satisfactory amount of air.

Heatshield

A heat shield serves the purpose of preventing the cold air from becoming hot while the car engine is running. Some cars have pre-installed heat shields under their hood but most don’t so kindly check for the availability of a heat shield as without this the whole purpose of a CAI is wasted.

According to our analysis, the Airaid Cold Air Intake System AIR-351-210 has a proper high-quality heat shield.

Our Verdict

A cold air intake is a must if you want to promote the health of your engine and also prevent overheating of the car. There are some good and well-built CAI in the market, but according to our reviews, the K&N Cold Air Intake Kit 5.7L V8,63-1114 is the best.

It has got the design, the performance, proper fittings as well as quality of manufacturing. The filter, housing, and heat shields are all of excellent quality. The only drawback is the instruction manual, however, you can refer to online videos for having a better idea. We also talked about the best spark plugs for 5.7 hemi. So make sure to have a look at it.
